Vienna, November 25th – The President of European Union of Private Hospitals (UEHP) met in Vienna with the UEHP Treasurer and Honorary President, both of whom also represent the Austrian Private Hospital Association (Verband der Privatkrankenanstalten Österreichs). The meeting focused on the ongoing collaboration between private healthcare providers across Europe and on common goals related to quality, innovation, and long-term sustainability in the healthcare sector.
This meeting takes place one week after the launch of the Factbook of European Private Hospitals which provides a comprehensive overview of the sector’s role in Europe, its achievements, and the challenges it faces in the coming years. Above all, it underlines the shared responsibility of all healthcare actors — public and private alike — to ensure access to quality care for every citizen.
European Private Hospitals reaffirm the commitment to quality, innovation, and responsibility, and invites all partners — policymakers, other providers, professionals, and patients — to work together in shaping a healthier, more equitable, and more resilient Europe for generations to come.
The Factbook acknowledges the existence of cross-cutting problems for private healthcare providers in Europe, with emphasis on the general increase in costs, the lack of human resources and regulatory instability in the sector. Across Europe, the difficulty in recruiting a new generation of healthcare professionals is putting the system under pressure. On the other hand, and although we recognize the budgetary constraints of each country, it is necessary to have objective information on healthcare costs and to ensure that the financing of healthcare provision is fair, transparent, and up to date. If this is not the case, the sustainability of the system is at stake. In this sense, also European programs and measures should not discriminate based on the nature of hospitals.
During the meeting, the representatives of the Austrian Private Hospital Association shared their national experience regarding regulatory developments, quality processes, and partnership opportunities with public institutions.
“This exchange in Vienna underscores the vital role private hospitals play in delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare across Europe,” said the UEHP President. “By strengthening collaboration with our Austrian colleagues, we show our shared focus on modern, sustainable, and patient-centred healthcare systems.”
UEHP will continue its Europe-wide engagement throughout the year, meeting with national associations and policymakers to promote innovation, resilience, and excellence in the private hospital sector.
