Innovation prize awarded by the Association of Private Hospitals
On October 9, 2019, the Association of Austrian Private Hospitals presented the Vision Award for the third time. Outstanding forward-looking projects in private clinics are honored at the annual VPKA Congress. This year's winner is the Vienna Private Clinic, which was the first clinic in Austria to adapt the innovative concept of "One Minute Training" and has been successfully implementing it ever since. PremiQaMed Privatkliniken came second with videos on patient safety. Third place also went to Wiener Privatklinik, which has developed its own training concept for nursing trainees.
"Austria's private clinics are thinking towards the future!" announces Stefan Günther, Secretary General of the Association of Austrian Private Clinics. For the third year in a row, member clinics were invited to submit progressive and pioneering projects initiated by the various professional groups in the course of their daily work. "Never before have there been so many submissions as this year," says Günther. "We are delighted that our companies are promoting the innovative strength of their employees so strongly. Patients always benefit from this in the end."
Viennese private clinic takes first prize
The Vienna private clinic was able to prevail among the numerous applicants: The "One Minute Training" concept (originally "One Minute Wonder"), which was originally developed and validated in England, was adapted and implemented here for the first time in Austria under the leadership of nursing scientist Karin Klas. It offers effective methods for integrating knowledge transfer in nursing into everyday working life. Specialist knowledge is conveyed in a highly condensed form using focused learning cards that can be read and grasped within a minute. The cards are placed in areas where there is a regular waiting time, such as in the intensive care unit during a blood gas analysis. This allows nursing staff to refresh basic knowledge, such as how to handle emergencies, without any additional effort.
Ilaria Giannico, Secretary General of UEHP, the European Association of Private Hospitals and jury member, confirmed the selection of the winning project: "The One Minute training concept can significantly relieve the burden on staff resources! In addition, it increases the treatment and safety of patients through up-to-date knowledge. I was impressed by the huge impact that can be achieved with comparatively little effort. I am convinced that this concept will be imitated in many clinics in the future."
PremiQaMed Privatkliniken and Wiener Privatklinik in 2nd and 3rd place
Patient safety was the focus of the 2nd place project: under the motto "Check in and feel safe" , Mag. (FH) Teresa Mang, MBA, Service Quality Officer at PremiQaMed Kliniken, developed short films for patients based on the safety videos on airplanes. These present the sensitive topic of safety in such a way that patients feel they are in good hands, but are not made to feel insecure. They are also designed to be barrier-free.
The Vienna Private Clinic was also able to score points once again in 3rd place: With a training concept for nursing interns developed by nursing director Gabriele Giehser, MSc, MBA and nursing scientist Karin Klas, "Nursing interns optimally supported", the clinic is not only presented as an attractive employer. Rather, the focus is on conveying a realistic image of the nursing profession for career starters and providing professional support for the interns - a project with future potential in times of nursing shortages.
