"Prevention is the future of medicine"

"Science is very divided when it comes to assessing the success of preventive examinations," says Prim. Dr. Josef Macher, President of the Association of Austrian Private Hospitals and Medical Director and Managing Director of the Diakonissen Clinic Linz. "But one thing has become clear: Preventive care programs make a lot of sense if they take the individuality of each person into account." Austrian private clinics have made use of this knowledge - they focus on individual contextual factors in their health checks. This is because more and more people are deciding to have a preventive program carried out in one of the private clinics.

"It's not about stringing together as many screenings and examinations as possible. Based on the preliminary findings, we take a close look at a person's risk profile in advance and decide what is necessary on an individual basis," explains Macher. The advantage of a private clinic is obvious here: even more extensive tests from a wide range of specialist areas can be completed here in a tight time frame. The experts work together on an interdisciplinary basis and guarantee medicine at the highest level. "Prevention is the future of medicine! Many diseases can be positively influenced or even completely avoided through a healthy lifestyle. For this reason, I would also recommend following the evaluation of the findings with an individual, in-depth consultation," advises Macher. In addition to the respective medical specialists, nutritionists, sports scientists and other health experts are an integral part of the screening programs in the clinics, who not only communicate closely, but can also immediately initiate any necessary consequences. Apart from the early detection of illnesses, proactive preventive healthcare also has an immediate positive effect on those who undertake it, Macher knows: "Health is the first duty in life, they say. The first step to living a healthy life is to actively take responsibility for your own health. This also means dealing with predisposition and lifestyle and is usually already a step in the right direction!" Preventive examinations and health checks are recommended from the age of around 40, taking into account individual contextual factors. The private acute clinics throughout Austria offer a wide range of preventive packages that can be put together as a package or modularly according to your own wishes.
