Last year brought a real baby boom to the Privatklinik Graz Ragnitz. 1,444 newborns, more than ever before, saw the light of day in the popular Styrian private clinic.
A record-breaking year for births had been on the cards for some time. In May, Privatklinik Graz Ragnitz recorded the highest number of births in the clinic's history with 142 newborns. Now the entire team is delighted about the new annual high. "We truly experienced an absolute boom in births last year with an increase of over 20 percent," explains Prim. Dr. Pedram Afschar, Medical Director and Managing Director of the clinic. The experienced obstetrics team assisted 1,444 babies with their start in life in 2021.
Dr. Afschar sums up why so many expectant mothers have opted for the private clinic as follows: "Firstly, we keep hearing that many expectant parents feel safer in a smaller, family environment, especially in times of the pandemic, and secondly, it is really important to us that fathers can be present at the birth and in the postpartum period. We have made this possible at all times."
Strict safety measures such as prior COVID testing and visiting restrictions were essential. However, according to clinic midwife Andrea Weißmann, the restriction of visits, which was initially unusual for many new parents, also has its advantages. "If the first few days are stress-free, this has an extremely positive effect on the parent-child relationship. These particularly intense first few days belong entirely to the parents and their newborn. And we notice that this time of settling into their new role in peace and quiet is perceived extremely positively by both the parents and the babies. For the rest of the family and friends, there is plenty of time at home afterwards to get to know the newborn."
At the Graz Ragnitz Private Hospital, which has 4 delivery rooms, expectant parents are supported by a well-coordinated team of elective gynecologists, midwives, pediatricians, qualified nurses and ward physicians as well as the anesthesia team. The competent and individual support and care of the expectant parents and their newborns is the focus at all times.
