Privatklinik Döbling: Expansion for modern medicine and patient comfort

Vienna, February 16, 2022: The Döbling Private Clinic will gain more space in the next few years thanks to an extension and conversion. Investments are being made in modern medicine and maximum comfort for patients. More space for the maternity ward, operating theaters with daylight and more single rooms are key elements of the expansion. A photovoltaic system, green façade sections and a biodiversity garden ensure sustainability in the construction project.

A neighboring plot of land on Heiligenstädter Strasse is being redeveloped and connected to the existing clinic. Construction work has already begun and the shell of the extension is scheduled for completion within a year. This will be followed by further modernization measures in the main building with completion planned for mid-2025. The clinic's operations will not be affected by the construction work and will continue without restriction.

Renovation shines with daylight ORs, more space for parents and their newborns and more single rooms

"Specifically, we will build state-of-the-art operating theatres with natural daylight and make the obstetrics ward more spacious to create more room for parents and their newborns," says Christiane Windsperger, MSc, MLS, Managing Director of Privatklinik Döbling, summarizing the most important medical investments. With 1,144 births in 2021, Privatklinik Döbling experienced a real baby boom and thus the highest number of newborns in the clinic's history.

"In response to strong demand from patients, we are also dedicating more rooms as single rooms and designing new common areas to create appealing retreats with privacy for patients and visitors. We are building a new, attractive lounge for our employees to promote regeneration during work breaks," adds Windsperger. Another focus will be on improving operating procedures and logistics processes, and every opportunity will be taken to integrate further developments in digitalization in the future.

The outpatient area of the Döbling outpatient clinic will also be modernized, where both inpatients of the clinic and private and statutory health insurance patients of the outpatient clinic will find comprehensive diagnostic and treatment facilities in a newly designed ambience.

Sustainable building project: Photovoltaic system, biodiversity garden and green façade

Aspects that ensure a good climate and sustainable design are also important elements of the planning. For example, a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof of the extension to generate additional electricity, geothermal energy will be used and the clinic's garden - a recreational oasis for patients - will be expanded to include a biodiversity garden. The flat roof and those façade elements that are suitable for this in consultation with the hygiene team will be greened.

Austria's most efficient private clinic

The Döbling Private Clinic with its attached outpatient clinic and surgery center is already the most efficient private clinic in Austria. It not only treats private patients, but also offers the Viennese numerous outpatient medical services that can be used with the e-Card, including X-ray, MRI, CT and laboratory examinations. The clinic is currently also integrated into the City of Vienna's COVID management system: Since spring 2020, around 800 patients without supplementary insurance have been treated at the clinic as part of a cooperation with the Vienna Health Association. With these care services, Privatklinik Döbling is helping to manage the pandemic in Vienna by keeping waiting times for necessary operations to a minimum.
