Members introduce themselves - Peter Pröll from the children's and youth rehabilitation center in Rohrbach-Berg

Our member clinics are spread all over Austria - time to take a closer look at them. This time, Peter Pröll, Commercial Director of Kinder- und Jugendreha Rohrbach-Berg, talks about the patients' favorite places in the clinic, his favorite picture in the corridors and why 2020 was a special year.

Who am I?

My name is Peter Pröll, 49 years old and I have been working for kokon, the new children's and youth rehabilitation center in Rohrbach-Berg, as Commercial Director since 2018. Before that, I worked for around 20 years in management positions at several social institutions, where I was responsible for personnel and budget supervision, among other things.

The special thing about my workplace is...

The work is very varied and almost impossible to plan. In 2020 in particular, we are constantly confronted with new, sometimes unforeseen circumstances on a daily basis, which makes for a varied and exciting working life. Our mutual encounters at eye level ensure a non-hierarchical, pleasant working atmosphere, and the relationship with our patients/families is reflected extremely positively.

Which door in the house is always open to me?

As part of the collegial management team, I try to be open to questions and concerns wherever possible and offer support. I also experience the same from our head offices in Vienna and Graz, which provide us with valuable assistance in management tasks on a daily basis. We exchange information with the managing directors at regular intervals and discuss necessary measures in a timely manner. However, we also tend to keep all "doors" open for each other's concerns.

Who of my colleagues would I like to swap roles with for a day? And why?

This question took me the most time to think about, for the reason that I hold the position in the company that I have always aspired to and would therefore not want to swap jobs within the company. But what I always find interesting - we have also been training apprentices for a year now - is the question of how it feels to enter the work process for the first time at the age of 15. It would be interesting for us to exchange roles with a new apprentice and see how they perceive their personal working environment.

Is there a favorite place of the patients? Where is it?

Of course, our patients and families have already found their favorite spots. In summer, this is on the inner courtyard side at the toddler play area, where parents also like to get together with their children. Inside the building, the seats in the lounge area are popular, as they offer direct access to our popular adventure land, the childcare area and our youth room.

My favorite picture in the hospital corridors?

My favorite picture is actually our kokon family. It shows a family in our design line and is intended to show that we take a holistic view of our rehab, for example, that we also consider accompanying parents or accompanying children. We see Kokon as a safe space in which young people can develop and flourish with the support of experienced experts and the latest medical methods.

The place in the clinic where I find peace?

Usually the place where I find some peace and quiet is in my office in the late afternoon, where a little more silence slowly sets in after the hectic pace of a working day. However, we also have a special snooze room for our patients and families, which is ideal for relaxation and switching off.
