KV private hospitals: Agreement after lengthy negotiations

At the sixth meeting on May 21, an agreement was reached for the collective agreement for private hospitals after difficult rounds of negotiations. The employers' attractive offer, which is well above the inflation rate and brings a significant real wage increase, was ultimately decisive. The collective agreement will come into force retroactively from April 1, 2024 and will apply at least until the end of 2025.

The employers had already presented the union with an extremely attractive offer in the first round of negotiations on February 8. Nevertheless, it took a total of six negotiation meetings before a conclusion was reached on May 21. Secretary General and head of negotiations for the Association of Private Hospitals, Stefan Günther, is satisfied with the result: "With these adjustments, we have sent out another clear signal for making the professions in the healthcare sector more attractive and are thus fulfilling the responsibility of private healthcare companies as an irreplaceable part of the entire healthcare system."

The most important details of the KV agreement

The collective agreement, which comes into force retroactively from April 1, will result in a 9.15% increase in collectively agreed wages and salaries for the 2024 calendar year. An increase of the CPI plus 0.45% is planned for 2025. Night, Sunday and public holiday allowances will be increased by a total of 62% in 2024 and 2025, while the allowances for specialists and general practitioners will be increased to a flat rate of 800 euros. From 2025, it has also been agreed that previous periods of service in a relevant field will be credited indefinitely and loyal employees will be granted up to two additional days' leave depending on their length of service. "In total, the agreement is already well above the established inflation rate in 2024 and even compensates for inflation at twice the rate for some employees over the entire term until 2025," says Stefan Günther, explaining the agreement.
