There for rehabilitation

An overview

Welcome to the Austrian Association of Private Hospitals

The prerequisite for an inpatient treatment stay (curative treatment or follow-up treatment) is - in addition to the appropriate medical indication - usually the existence of a declaration of assumption of costs from your responsible pension, health or accident insurance. In addition, the member companies also offer the option of self-paying accommodation.

Your inpatient rehabilitation stay will be approved by your social insurance provider. A written application must first be submitted to your insurance provider. Your family doctor, specialist or hospital doctor will complete this application together with you.

Here you will find a link to the application form:

The application form is also available in paper form from all insurance providers and can be downloaded from their websites. On the website of the Austrian Rehabilitation Compass you will find detailed explanations on how to complete your application correctly.

So that you can complete your rehabilitation stay in one of our member companies, don't forget to specify your preferred clinic under "Suggested facility". You can find a selection of rehabilitation clinics here.

The application is then reviewed for medical necessity by your social insurance provider. The review process ends with the notification of the approval decision to you and - if the decision is positive - to the facility at the same time. From this point onwards, it makes sense to contact the rehabilitation clinic to arrange an appointment or to inform them of your preferred date.

  • In brief: The path to rehabilitation: The referral is made by a general practitioner, a specialist or a clinic, which is submitted to the responsible cost bearer.
  • How do I get to my preferred clinic? Indicate your preferred clinic in the rehabilitation application form. You can find the form on the website of your social insurance and your preferred clinic. Self-paying stays are also possible in all clinics!
  • Single or twin room? Depending on your state of health and the current Covid-19 situation, you will be accommodated in single or twin rooms in all facilities.
  • Visitor regulations: Restricted visitor regulations apply during the corona pandemic. Further insights and current information (Covid-19 regulations) can be found on the website of the individual facilities.
  • Inpatient rehab counts as sick leave: Approved inpatient rehab counts as sick leave under labor law.
  • Costs: The costs of rehabilitation are covered by your insurance. Depending on their income, insured persons are required to make an additional payment for medical rehabilitation measures.
  • Rehab offers: You can find our overview of various rehab offers from our members as an ePaper or PDF download below.
