There for rehabilitation
An overview
Admission to a private rehabilitation facility
The prerequisite for an inpatient treatment stay (curative treatment or follow-up treatment) is - in addition to the appropriate medical indication - usually the existence of a declaration of assumption of costs from your responsible pension, health or accident insurance. In addition, the member companies also offer the option of self-paying accommodation.
Your inpatient rehabilitation stay will be approved by your social insurance provider. A written application must first be submitted to your insurance provider. Your family doctor, specialist or hospital doctor will complete this application together with you.
Here you will find a link to the application form:
The application form is also available in paper form from all insurance providers and can be downloaded from their websites. On the website of the Austrian Rehabilitation Compass you will find detailed explanations on how to complete your application correctly.
So that you can complete your rehabilitation stay in one of our member companies, don't forget to specify your preferred clinic under "Suggested facility". You can find a selection of rehabilitation clinics here.
The application is then reviewed for medical necessity by your social insurance provider. The review process ends with the notification of the approval decision to you and - if the decision is positive - to the facility at the same time. From this point onwards, it makes sense to contact the rehabilitation clinic to arrange an appointment or to inform them of your preferred date.
Most private acute clinics in Austria are organized as affiliated hospitals. This means that patients choose the doctor they trust themselves. They then recommend a private clinic that is best equipped for the planned treatment. Together with the attending physician, patients have the opportunity to use the private clinic's infrastructure. The attending physician is supported by a highly qualified team permanently employed at the respective clinic.
The attending physician must be available around the clock and must also appoint a deputy. There must be staff on site at all times to ensure that medical assistance is available at all times (doctor with a diploma in emergency medicine).
If patients are still looking for a suitable doctor for the treatment in question, they can also choose the route via the individual clinics. Many private hospitals have listed the attending physicians working in their clinic on their website.
