At the Malcherhof Baden Clinic, digital patient The digital patient file has recently replaced the previous paper documentation - a benefit for patients, staff and the environment.
Whether medical information sheets, data protection declarations or medical approvals for leisure activities - during a rehabilitation stay, numerous documents are generated that were previously signed by patients in paper form and physically stored by the hospital. This is now a thing of the past: At Malcherhof, the signature process has recently been made simple and digital using a signature pad. The documents are stored directly in the system and can be retrieved at any time.
"We wanted to increase data security for our patients, create noticeable relief for our team and make a contribution to sustainability," explains Karin Kovar, BA MA, Managing Director at Malcherhof. "With the digital patient file, we have succeeded."
The benefits are noticeable at all levels: patients benefit from data protection-compliant and traceable documentation. Staff save time as printouts, filing and manual archiving are no longer necessary. Instead of mountains of paper, there is now a structured, digital solution with time stamps and a high level of quality assurance. The changeover is also a win for the environment: around 30,000 sheets of paper and lots of printer cartridges can be saved for around 3,000 patients who receive inpatient treatment at Malcherhof Baden Hospital every year.
"Digitalization should make everyday work easier in a meaningful way, without losing sight of the focus on people - i.e. patients and employees. The electronic patient file shows how digitalization can be implemented in the healthcare sector in a concrete and practical way," says Kovar.
