Outpatient rehabilitation and therapy services offer a modern, flexible complement to inpatient care. They are designed for people who, following an illness or surgical procedure, continue to need targeted therapeutic support but wish to remain at home, provided that an inpatient stay is not necessary. Treatments take place close to home and can be integrated into daily life to the greatest extent possible. Patients remain in their familiar social environment and maintain their daily routines as much as possible—which can certainly be beneficial for their emotional well-being and motivation during the recovery process. At the same time, they benefit from individually tailored, high-quality therapy provided by interdisciplinary teams of specialists—without the need for an additional hospital stay.

"Rehabilitation is the path back to life—

"Step by step, at your own pace."

Advantages

1. flexibility and suitability for everyday use:

  • Outpatient rehabilitation can be integrated into daily life. Patients live at home and can largely maintain their normal daily routine.
  • Appointments are scheduled flexibly so that they can be easily coordinated with other commitments, such as work or family.

2. individual therapy planning:

  • Therapy sessions are specifically tailored to each patient's personal needs and individual healing process.

3. Promoting independence and personal responsibility:

  • Since patients continue to live in their familiar surroundings, their independence is fostered while their self-discipline is strengthened at the same time.

4. Compatibility with work commitments:

  • People who are employed and/or have only a mild disability may be able to continue working to some extent or plan a gradual return to work.

5. Psychological and social stability:

  • In a familiar environment, many people tend to feel more mentally stable and emotionally at ease, which supports the rehabilitation process. Being in a familiar environment often has an additional, positive impact on healing and on learning to manage chronic conditions.

6. Long-term therapeutic success:

  • Outpatient rehabilitation promotes the integration of therapies into daily life. Patients can immediately apply the exercises they have learned and the recommendations they have received in their own environment and in their daily lives. This helps to solidify the success of the therapy and anchor it in daily life over the long term.

Outpatient Rehabilitation or Therapy—The Differences

Outpatient Rehabilitation:

  • It is either a standalone rehabilitation measure or a supplement designed to further consolidate the success of therapy following an acute or inpatient rehabilitation stay.
  • As with inpatient rehabilitation, you must submit a separate application for this. Fill out the form together with your treating physician and then submit it to your social insurance provider. You can find the form here: Application for Outpatient Rehabilitation. Be sure to explicitly state in the application that you wish to receive outpatient rehabilitation!
  • Several coordinated forms of therapy are specifically combined and tailored to individual needs.
  • Rehabilitation typically takes place as part of a structured, several-hour-long daily program over a set period of time on consecutive days.
  •

Treatment:

  • Treatment often follows a course of rehabilitation, but it can also be prescribed by a doctor independently of that.
  • It is a specialized form of treatment with a clearly defined focus, tailored to individual needs.
  • Treatment takes place about once or twice a week, typically consists of ten sessions, and each session lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Your treating physician prescribes the therapy and works with the patient to set the rehabilitation goal.
  • In most cases, approval from your social insurance provider is required before treatment can begin. Please check in advance to see if approval is necessary.
