The 3rd Ragnitz Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Congress took place at the Privatklinik Graz Ragnitz from October 16-18. Over three intensive days, around 40 top experts presented and discussed the latest scientific findings and state-of-the-art surgical and conservative techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal, shoulder, hip and knee joint disorders.

Interdisciplinarity as the key
The diverse program and intensive professional exchange made the event a complete success. The congress deliberately focused on an interdisciplinary perspective: in addition to specialists from orthopaedics and trauma surgery, specialists from the fields of pain medicine, physiotherapy and sports medicine also had their say. This group of experts also reflected the interdisciplinary collaboration and made the exchange particularly valuable.
Current trends and practical content
As in the previous year, an entire day was dedicated to the spine, as musculoskeletal disorders have become the number one widespread disease in Austria in recent years and decades. According to Statistics Austria, around 1.9 million Austrians regularly complain of back pain - and not just in old age.
The second day covered the latest concepts in shoulder surgery and pain therapy as well as extensive updates on hip and knee endoprosthetics. A special highlight was the presentation by keynote speaker Herbert Mandl, head coach at the Austrian Ski Association for many years, who reported on coaching strategies for preventing injuries in alpine skiing.
This was followed on Saturday by a block focusing on the knee joint, which included acute knee surgery in elite sport. The second trauma surgery block provided the latest findings on complicated fractures.
